How to Clean a Chaise Cushion

Even the best quality chaise cushion is easily ruined if not correctly cleaned after a spill or drop that leaves unsightly stains. Here, you are sure to find a small trick that you can use to make sure you do it right the first time. Keep reading to learn how to clean a chaise cushion to ensure your outdoor loungers stay looking great.

  1. First: Gather your ingredients

You need hot water, a bottle of lemon zest, a soft sponge, mustard powder, a pair of rubber gloves and a large supply of elbow grease.

  2. Second: Prepare everything

Most chaise cushions have zips so that you can remove the cover. Do that, and boil water. Removing the boiling water straight from the kettle, pour some into a bowl. Squirt in a decent amount of lemon zest. Put on your gloves, and you are ready to start.

  3. Third: Destroy the odor

Pour some of the mustard powder into your hand and start rubbing it all over the cushion and cushion cover. It is VERY important to make sure that your hand, the cushion or the mustard do not get wet at this time or the mustard may stain your cushion. Rub the mustard in well; this helps pull out foul and stale odors.

  4. Fourth: Wash it

Now, wipe all the mustard off the cushion. Grab the sponge, dip it in the bowl and give the sponge a quick squeeze to remove excess water. Gently scrub over the entire cushion and cushion cover.

  5. Fifth: Finish up

It is best to hang the cushion outside to dry in the sun, but if this is not possible, a tumble dryer is sure to do the trick. After it has completely dried, return the cushion inside the cover, and you now have a sparkly-clean and nice, lemony-scented cushion. As an added extra, you could also put a little bit of potpourri inside the cover before you zip it closed.
